Change

At the moment there seems to be one Seasonal Event after another. I am curious how many people still take part in any aspect of thsee Events, unless there is loot or a mount as the carrot to keep us pressing the buttons. It is true they mark the changing of seasons, and there have been minor modifications over the years, but once we get the achievements we really don't care, especially when there is many other things to do.

This aspect of the game does not bother me if it is there or not, and I only bring up the issue because WoW Insider asked the Question, whether Blizzard should trash the Seasonal Events and start again. Even this was not enough to pique my interest until I witnessed the Darkmoon Faire this month.

The Darkmoon Faire, was a crappy event that moved around Azeroth and for a brief while it was busy because they had a vendor who sold ores, leathers, herbs and motes at very cheap prices. The other things of interest were Frogs and Darkmoon Trinkets.

It became such a ghost town that they decided to give it an entire Island and revamped the carnival with a series of very bugged achievements and stupid carnival dailies. They did however implement a very easy way to gain 5 profession skillup points, which I used for Archaeology and Fishing, and since the new expansion for all my crafting professions. Now that the expansion is firmly established, there is very little reason to visit each month. The mounts and pets are all accounted for due to the move to Bind on Account and even the Killer Rabbit is not the draw it once was.

I am assuming that the Darkmoon Faire is part of the CRZ, and if that is the case, I see very little future for the Faire in it's current guise. I ran the Darkmoon Faire on 11 characters on Sunday night and saw less than 10 other people in all that time. There was no fighting for Tonk parts, no waiting for Injured Carnies and nobody on the pier fishing. This town is going like Ghost Town.

The reason would appear to be obvious, the lack of any tangible rewards and the requirement to do Monthlies on top of a mound of Dailies does not fire the enthusiasm to trundle out to the Island.

The Drakmoon Faire is an ex Faire, it has ceased to be, and it is about time that Blizzard removed the nail and left this Parrot alone to push up the daisies.

Gone Fishing

I have a love hate relationship with WoW fishing, it is much improved from the original vanilla version, but like Archaeology it leaves a lot to be desired. The biggest issue is the time it takes to level. The dailies and the Darkmoon Faire take a huge chunk out of the leveling process but it is still not a level in day type of activity.

Yesterday I received a whisper from a guildy who was combing the beach at Darkmoon Island and stated his bags were full and he was the only person fishing. Now this struck a chord because I had seen the occasion pool of Shipwreck Debris but only really around the pier area. I had never considered the whole coast as an area available for plundering.

I whisked a character out there pretty damn sharpish and discovered lots of pools, mostly with one shot items of sealed crates, so not the best scenario for leveling fishing, but the rewards from the sealed crates are phenomenal (ores, herbs, cloth and thick leather).  As with any pool in Cata and Northrend it also contains a very slim chance for collecting a Sea Pony or Sea Turtle.

The area is best for DK's and Shaman due to the Water Walking abilities but there is always alternatives with potions for any class, the reason is that there some pools hidden behind the small islands.

In the end its not the most productive use your time but I did manage to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Are you going to Darkmoon Faire?

Ahead of You, Down the Path
A Majestic, Magical Faire!
Ignore the Darkened, Eerie Woods
Ignore the Eyes That Blink and Stare
Fun & Games & Wondrous Sights!
Music & Fireworks to Light Up the Night!
Do Not Stop! You're Nearly There!
Behold, My Friend: THE DARKMOON FAIRE!
- Upon the signs leading to the Darkmoon Faire, down the Darkmoon Path
The Darkmoon Faire showcases the weird and the extraordinary. Gathering the exotic from around the world, Silas Darkmoon presents the Darkmoon Faire as a celebration of the wonders and mysteries found in Azeroth. The Faire spends most of its time in parts unknown, they are available from time to time by accessing portals in Mulgore and Elwynn Forest.

Does anyone remember the fanfare with the launch of the new improved Darkmoon Faire? The original Faire was a relic of another time, It was useful to Goldmakers and Reputation gatherers. The only other visitors got there latest Darkmoon Trinkets and hearthstoned as quickly as possible.

Is the new Faire going the same as the old one? I think it might be. I portalled over as soon as the Faire was available and joined the small band that could be bothered to hand in a few quests and unload the stack of Darkmoon Artifacts. Now we have had a few problems in the last few months with the achievements Darkmoon Dungeoneer and Darkmoon Despoiler resetting each month. So I set off to check that the progress had not been cleared. Hurrah for Blizz, everything was in place.

Not everything was working as intended. There was a flurry of blue exclamations but none of the monthly quests were available. On trying to hand in Soothsayer Runes it stated that I had already completed this quest.. All the profession quests were the same and was the Grisly Ears quest.

Yesterday this had been solved, and I was able to complete the monthly quests, but something else struck me in the process of researching this post, the achievement history is now blank. It would appear that the quests are slightly bugged and its either quests or history. So I still stand by my post last month as Epic Fail Blizz.

Epic Fail Blizz

Darkmoon Faire is in town again. Time to hand in those objects accrued from running instances, raids and PvP and maybe even some Grisly Ears (yuck). On my travels this month I was fortunate enough to come across the rare and very expensive A Treatise on Strategy, I handed it in and then went to check my achievement status. It was empty again! Blizz had failed me.

I scoured the Internet and was surprised to see nobody had picked up on it. A couple days later it appeared in Wow Insider. So Blizz failed in January, February and probably March. Looks like I might have to shell out for a complete set this week or risk the loss of the Treatise on Strategy and need to payout 1000 G next month. Seems like I might just play this one safe.
