Last Thursday I was fortunate enough to have been the guest of a competition winner to see an exclusive live set of Gun at the Hard Rock Cafe, Manchester. I can report that the gig was excellent and I enjoyed the experience greatly. It was a promotional event to publicise the new Gun album Break The Silence. The show was a cutdown unplugged session, with 3 acoustic guitars, 1 bass and the smallest drumkit I have ever seen consisting of about 3 drums and a few cymbals.
Tagged on to the new material was 3 classic Gun tracks which transported me back 23 years. The music is surprisingly fresh and not as dated as you might expect, and I have listened to the album Taking On The World heavily since the concert.
For the iPod generation I can recommend Better Days, Taking On The World, Shame On You, Steal Your Fire and the classic Cameo cover of Word Up.
Thanks again to Gun, Real Radio XS and Hard Rock Cafe, Manchester for a great night out.

Break The Silence
My wife is on a roll, this time we have won a competition to return to the Hard Rock Cafe, Manchester for an intimate show with Scottish Rockers - Gun.
I have always been a big fan of Gun, since their debut album - Taking on the World (1989). With my favourite tracks being "Better Days" and "Taking on the World". They hit a bit of success with the 3rd Album - Swagger (1994) due mostly to the rocked up version of Cameo's "Word Up". Unfortunately they split up in the late 90's and consequently disappeared off my radar.
I am very excited and now just need to find a babysitter. I have never been to an exclusive session before.

Hard Rock Cafe
Ok, so it's nearly a week ago since my visit to the Hard Rock Cafe Manchester, but it is still worthy of a mention. It was a most splendid evening, with the possible exception of my son getting a little tired and fractious. The staff were all brilliant and very accommodating, and I even turned down the chance for a bucket of beer (no quantity specified), in favour of a milk shake and several pints of coke.
The choice of food is fairly limited but they do a rather splendid line in burgers. This was the burger of choice for the adults.

Hickory BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger
Basted with our special Hickory Bar-B-Que sauce and smothered with caramelized onions. Topped with crisp seasoned bacon and melted Cheddar cheese.
To be honest I could just eat that now for my lunch.

Anyway a special thanks to all the staff at Hard Rock Cafe for looking after my family, and a special mention to these two reprobates.

Hard Rock Calling
I was woken up this morning by my wife, asking if I wanted to go to the Hard Rock Cafe in Manchester (England) tonight. When I came round a bit, I asked why the Hard Rock Cafe, to which she stated that we had won a table for 4 tonight on a Radio competition.
So big thanks to Hard Rock Cafe, Real Radio XS and of course my lovely wife for entering the competition.
This kind of thing makes you feel happy all day.
